A trio of boaters from Toronto chose not to abandon ship, a decision they may have regretted a few hours later. Saturday morning around 3:00 a concerned citizen called Prince Edward County OPP about a sailboat just off the shores of Sandbanks Beach. While no distress calls were heard coming from the boat, the citizen was concerned by the high waves and the boat's violent rolling and pitching. Responding officers were just as concerned so they called the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre. A rescue vessel arrived but the boaters declined any help. A few hours later and the sailboat was tossed onto the shore destroyed by high winds and waves. Luckily the three people onboard did make it safely to shore and were not injured.
