The OPP have released the results of their festive RIDE campaign. This year there were 587 drivers charged with impaired driving; 29 of them for drug impairment, on Ontario roadways between November 24th and January 2nd. An additional 366 drivers were issued a Warn Range Suspension and had their driver's licence suspended. This is a slight decrease over last year's campaign where OPP charged 623 impaired drivers and issued 407 Warn Range Suspensions. In 2017, the OPP charged 4,915 drivers with alcohol-impaired charges, 238 with drug-impaired charges and issued 2,995 Warn Range Suspensions. Over the course of 2017, 44 people lost their lives as a result of alcohol/drug-related collisions and OPP officers conducted over 9,800 RIDE checks throughout the year.
