BIG FINANCIAL BOOST FOR DE VRIES NATURAL HERITAGE COLLECTION

The Ameliasburgh Heritage Village recently received a huge financial boost to support the de Vries Natural Heritage Collection. Crafted in Prince Edward County by the late Jake de Vries, it's comprised of nearly 500 specimens including waterfowl, song birds, mammals, reptiles and fish. The de Vries family has generously offered the collection to The County's museum system, in hopes the collection will remain intact and in the local community. Museum staff and project volunteers have long identified the "Green Barn" at Ameliasburgh Heritage Village as the preferred home for the collection nut it needs structural upgrades with a financial goal of $154,000. The John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation contributed $85,000 to the project following a funding application submitted by the Friends of Ameliasburgh Heritage Village. Other major contributors to the project include The Prince Edward County Stewardship Council and the Stark Foundation and now less than $6,500 remains to close the fundraising gap.
