LOCAL ATHLETES SHINE ON PROVINCIAL AND WORLD STAGES

Napanee District Secondary School's Carter Free made another strong showing at the OFSAA Finals held at York University in Toronto over the weekend. He won Silver in the 1500 metres on Friday. He led for most of the way in the race but was squeezed out by 0.22 seconds at the wire. Free's time was 3:50.93, a personal best. In the 3000 metre race on Saturday, he was tenth of the 24 runners in the Ontario Finals. NDSS graduate Britt Benn and Canada's Women's Sevens Team defeated host France to secure a bronze medal finish at the HSBC Paris Sevens. Britt's accomplishments during the tournament include a late score on Day 1 to sercure a 31-5 win over Russia. Britt got Canada off to a great start, running a perfect line to score her 49th try on the World Series in Canada's 26-24 quarterfinal match against the US. Next up for Britt is World Cup 7's this July in San Francisco .
