Project OnRoute wrapped up with the launch of a new campaign…. Project Maple Leaf. Both projects aims to bring awareness to human trafficking in Canada. Human trafficking can include forced prostitution and sexual exploitation, mostly involving women and girls, but also young men — with some girls as young as 13 years old. According to Courage for Freedom, the organization behind these projects, 60% of human trafficking is initiated along the 400 series highways and every 30 seconds someone becomes a victim of human trafficking. Project Maple Leaf is hoping there will be more screens, more public awareness and more advertisements geared towards ending human trafficking.
