VIA Rail has extended cancellations of service until the end of day Friday, between Montreal and Toronto and between Ottawa and Toronto. They say this is due to the blockade near the rail tracks on Wyman Road south of Old Highway 2, in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Yesterday, the Tyendinaga Police Chief, Jason Brant, spoke to protestors about their actions. One media outlet reported that the Brant told the protestors they made their point and encouraged them to return home. Despite, talks and an injunction being served by the OPP a second blockade was set up yesterday at the CN crossing on Highway 49. These protests are continuing all over the country as Indigenous groups stand in solidarity with some B-C chiefs who are demanding a halt to a natural gas pipeline project.
