Participating pharmacies in the KFL&A region are now administering COVID-19 vaccines to adults 40 and up, but don’t have much supply currently.
myFM spoke with Dr. Kieran Moore, local Medical Officer of Health, about the AstraZeneca supply right now.
The supply is currently quite low for in KFL&A and across Ontario. Dr. Moore says he doesn’t believe any additional supply of AstraZeneca will be provided until much later. There is talk of other routes to take to get more vaccine into the arms of local residents.
The current main driver for vaccines in the community continues to be Pfizer in our mass immunization centres. Dr. Moore says they have been getting roughly 4000 doses per week of the Pfizer vaccine. He says this supply is dependable and with doses arriving weekly, that helps public health look ahead and be able to schedule more appointments and bookings appropriately using that supply chain. Soon, more community partners will be able to administer this vaccine as well.
He went on to say that in May they will need all partners working fully, 7 days a week, to be able to provide that additional vaccine to our community.
