Ontario’s very own Avril Lavigne will be among the next group of stars to be added to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
The Napanee native will be joining other Canadian music artists on the Walk of Fame like Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé, Céline Dion, Shania Twain, David Foster and Paul Anka.
myFM spoke with Stephen Medd, a Napanee artist who worked with Avril a lot in 1999 and 2000. Lavigne became the center piece of two Medd’s albums. Medd wrote and recorded three of Lavigne’s first songs. He also had her sing backup on a couple songs he sang.
Medd then began to reminisce how charged up she was after that studio recording. So much so her dad decided to take her out for a treat, which was a trip to Tim Horton’s for a coffee on their way back from the studio in Kingston.
At the release party in Kingston for Medd’s first album was where Lavigne first made contact with the music industry.
Medd mentioned how exciting it was when Lavigne’s first album Let Go came out and the world flooded to Napanee. He was interview by Rolling Stone while in his Kitchen, and his children were featured on YTV.
Medd went on to say that he is a big cheerleader for Lavigne, and that it’s wonderful she’s receiving a star on the Walk of Fame.
He went on to say it’s very exciting from his perspective, being one of the people that helped her and gave her some opportunities in the beginning, it’s really exciting to see where she’s gone.
A date has not yet been scheduled for the star ceremonies, as recipients have two years to schedule star ceremonies from the date of selection before they expire.
