Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Greater Napanee and the surrounding area. Smoke from active forest fires in northwestern Ontario has moved over southern Ontario. Elevated levels of particulate matter and hazy conditions have been reported. Reduced visibilities and deteriorating air quality are possible if the smoke descends to ground level. Conditions are expected to improve with a passing cold front later today.
Environment Canada has also issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area. Officials say conditions are favorable for dangerous thunderstorms which could produce winds of up to 110 km/h with large hail. Weather officials state that a tornado is also possible.
