The town of Greater Napanee is getting ready for a 100th year memorial dedication for a fallen Napanee police officer.
The memorial dedication is in honour of Constable Richard Arnold Beard. On Saturday, August 27, 1921, Constable Beard of the Napanee Police Force responded to a robbery at Smith’s Jewelry Store in Napanee. Constable Beard courageously confronted three suspects in an alleyway and was shot and killed while protecting his community.
Councillor Bob Norrie made a motion during last night’s Town of Greater Napanee council meeting for a road closure for the event.
A plaque honouring Constable Beard will be mounted in a Police Call Box located on John Street at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021, just North of Dundas Street in downtown Napanee.
