Atura Power company is continuing to support the community, most recently making a donation to the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital.
myFM spoke with Darius Sokal, Senior Communications Advisor with Atura Power, who told us about their Community Development Fund.
The fund is overseen by a committee that includes representatives of the Town of Greater Napanee. Sokal told us that Napanee plant manager Tom Fletcher is a big supporter of local hospitals, even in his past jobs in other communities. When Fletcher joined the Napanee plant earlier this year, he brought those values with him.
On his initiative, the committee reached out to the hospital to see how they could help.
The committee then decided to give them a nice round number of $100,000. The donation will be largely used to purchase new heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature monitors, stretchers, wheelchairs, and over-bed tables along with other needs in the hospital.
In the past, the fund has supported the Salvation Army Napanee Food Bank, Community Foundation of Lennox & Addington, Hospice Lennox and Addington, United Empire Loyalist Heritage Centre and Park and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137. The plant has also donated scrap metal proceeds to the local food bank.
Any local organizations who are interested can contact the Town of Greater Napanee and ask for an application for the Community Development Fund.
