Yesterday we told you about how the PSAC strike has shut down the Quinte Mohawk School on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory in Deseronto, as 17 teachers at the school are in the union, employed by Indigenous Services Canada.
We spoke with Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Chief Don Maracle. His council oversees the school. He says the workers who remain are doing their best to keep the students up to date.
The Chief says because it’s a federal school, they aren’t allowed to replace the teachers during a strike.
Chief Maracle says the schools is at the mercy of negotiations, and he knows about as much as we do.
He says they have further support planned for the families they serve, and that information will be made available soon.
