Prince Edward County has a new protected wildlife area.
New Monarch Point Conservation Reserve is the result of merging roughly 16 hundred hectares of Ontario government land at Ostrander Point and Point Petre Provincial Wildlife Area.
The province says the shoreline conservation area will provide hiking, birdwatching and hunting opportunities while at the same time protecting of wildlife and the area’s ecosystem.
The creation of Monarch Point Conservation Reserve stems from several years of local efforts led by the South Shore Joint Initiative.
