It’s Hooray for Coaches Day on myFM! We are profiling Brian Atkins.
Brian began his soccer coaching career in 2020 during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He saw a need for volunteers and activities for kids in the community, witnessing his own son sitting at home and unable to attend playdates and looking for something to do. He jokes that his reasoning for becoming a coach was purely selfish.
When asked about a struggle he’s faced, it was during the early days of coaching when masking was still mandated, and he had to find new ways of expressing his smiling face to his young team from behind the mask.
Another struggle he says he’s faced also taking on a role to help organize the league, is finding community volunteers. They’re always asking for more input or more families to get involved to help keep the program running for the kids.
