The Napanee Raiders had a strong start to the 2023-24 regular season, walking away winner of both games.
Friday, September 15th the Raiders hosted their home season opener against the Campbellford Rebels. After a scoreless first period, Napanee’s Trent Williams opened the scoring 6 minutes into the second period which would be answered by Rebels to end the period tied at 1. Erik MacNiel and Ben Chubbs scored in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Campbellford managed to get one more in the back of the Raiders net for a 3-2 Napanee win to start the season.
Sunday, September 17th the team played their first road game of the season, making the short trip to play their L&A County rivals, the Amherstview Jets. The Raiders averaged a goal a period during the first two, with Michael Patrick scoring in the first, Adam Nuttal in the second. Marshal McFarland opened scoring in the third. Amherstview answered those three goals with one for themselves. McFarland then scored his second of the game for a 4-1 lead. Cameron Krupa scored on the empty net with 1:32 left in the game for a 5-1 Raiders win.
The Napanee Raiders finish the first weekend of the regular season atop the East Tod Division standings with a 2-0 record and 4 points.
The Raiders return to action Friday, September 22nd, when they will be hosting the Picton Pirates at the SPC for their lone game of the weekend. Puck drop is 7:30pm.
