It was not the weekend the Napanee Raiders were hoping for.
Friday, September 29th, the Raiders welcomed the Amherstview Jets to the SPC for a classic, tight, competitive matchup between the L&A county rivals. It was a tight game that say just one goal for Amherstview with less than a minute to go in the first period. Napanee would go on to tie the game in the second with a goal by Cameron Krupa. Amherstview scored to take the lead back around 8 and a half minutes into the third, with Ben White quickly answering that with a goal less than a minute later to once again tie the game. Just shy of 12 into the period Amherstview shot on goal to take a 3-2 lead. Erik MacNiel quickly scored to tie at 3. They didn’t have long to savour that Napanee goal before Amherstview would score again to take a 4-3 lead. Napanee couldn’t answer that last goal and suffered their first loss of the season to the Amherstview Jets.
Saturday, September 30th, Napanee made their first trip to Port Hope for the season. Michael Patrick opened the scoring for the raiders just less than 3 minutes into the game to take the lead. Port Hope would then tie the game, with Marshal McFarland scoring for the Raiders second goal of the night to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second period. Unfortunately, that would be the last goal Napanee would get on the night, that saw Port Hope receive 4 more for a 5-2 win over the Raiders.
The Napanee Raiders are sitting third in the East Tod Division standings with a 2-2-0-1 record and 5 points. They sit behind Frankford (4-0 and 8 points) and Port Hope (2-1-0-1 and 5 points).
The Raiders return to action Friday, October 6th, when they will host the Frankford Huskies at the SPC. Puck drop at 7:30pm. This is their lone game of the Thanksgiving weekend.
