The Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) recently gathered on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Their main focus was to introduce the 7 in 7+ Regional Housing Plan and discuss their priorities.
During the meeting, they had the pleasure of hosting several high-profile individuals, including the Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Regional Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Secretariats, Senators, and various staff members.
The EOWC aims to strengthen its relationships with all levels of government, improve infrastructure, and develop housing solutions for Eastern Ontario residents. Their primary concern is addressing housing supply, and this meeting served as a constructive step forward to share information, establish connections, and make progress on the EOWC’s 7 in 7+ Regional Housing Plan.
This housing plan intends to build a minimum of 28,000 housing units within seven years. Out of these, 7,000 will be affordable community rental units to reduce housing waitlists. The plan employs a mixed-model strategy, which will also bring an additional 21,000 market-rate units to the region. Currently, the EOWC is actively seeking input from the market and has garnered strong support from the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association’s eastern regional group.
