As the community comes to terms with the loss of its old arena, many are sharing their memories from its 68 year history.
The arena has been a part of our community since the 1950s, offering a secure space for residents to gather, play, and participate in the activities we all cherish.
Some are now wondering how the history will be preserved.
To learn more, myFM spoke with long time Napanee resident Peter Card, who told us he was in the front row when they placed the 1955 date stone in the front North Corner of the old arena.
Audio PlayerCard was in the front row for the occasion because one of his classmates happened to be the son of the mayor at the time, Lorne Smart.
After the fire, he says he’d like to see the date stone saved.
He told us he felt devastated when he learned about the fire.
Growing up, Card remembers that on Monday nights if he finished his homework, he was allowed to go to the arena and watch the Napanee Comets play.
Saturday mornings he was in there playing hockey. He shared with us this fun story.
Audio PlayerThe Town of Greater Napanee is now working closely with the Lennox Agricultural Society to provide space for community groups that use the Community Centre.
