Greater Napanee Town Council voted last night to support a resolution now passed by other municipalities in regard to Catch and Release Justice in Ontario
The Town of Midland’s motion read that they would send a letter to the Federal and Provincial Governments requesting meaningful improvements to the current state of the so-called “catch and release” bail system for criminal offenders.
The request doesn’t say what those meaningful improvements might be, but it does say that in Ontario, police are spending too much time and resources arresting the same individuals repeatedly. It can be demoralizing for the police but also burdens law-abiding citizens who have to deal with the financial and emotional consequences of this broken system.
Letters will be sent to Premier Doug Ford, H-L&A MPP Ric Bresee, and all Ontario municipalities.
