It’s never been easier to help the police solve crime in your own backyard. Literally!
Thursday afternoon the Lennox and Addington OPP were joined by some Council members and staff of Loyalist Township to announce their partnership in the CAMSAFE program.
myFM spoke with L&A OPP Acting Inspector John Hatch, who say’s this is like a neighbourhood watch 2.0.
The idea behind this program is that anyone who has an exterior camera on their home or business can visit CAMSAFE.ca and register. Then if there is a crime in that area, police can go online and see a map of who has cameras in that area.
No, this does not mean the OPP have a live feed of your camera. If there is a crime in the area and you’re register, the OPP will reach out and ask you to share with them the file.
Loyalist Township Mayor Jim Hegadorn told myFM he feels it’s great that they can work with the OPP to bring this forward and endorse this.
The mayor encourages anyone with a camera to sign up now.
The OPP tell myFM this program will also be coming to Greater Napanee in the new year.
