To help keep the community safe, the Mohawk Fire Department, Enbridge Gas Inc., and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council announced they are working together to improve home safety and bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.
myFM spoke with Scott Maracle, Chief of the Mohawk Fire Department, who thanked Enbridge for providing these live-saving devices.
The fire chief shared that in First Nation’s communities, you’re 10 times more likely to die in a fire than you are off territory, proving that early detection is an essential part of community safety.
This donation was made through the Safe Community Project Zero initiative, which aims to distribute over 10,000 alarms to residents in 50 municipalities throughout Ontario.
Melanie Green, Senior Advisor with Enbridge, told us this year they have invested $315,000 in Safe Community Project Zero.
The Fire Chief says they look forward to working with Enbridge as they expand their service through the territory.
