Happy birthday to Black Canal Tattoo Company, who is celebrating three years since opening their doors in Napanee this month! They’d like to extend a big thank you to the community and their amazing clients who continue to support them.
To learn more about the shop, myFM sat down with owners Karen and Derek Pritchett.
Karen is a registered nurse who began piercing as a hobby and passion project after having her first son and fell in love with it. Before getting into tattooing, Derek was a paramedic in British Columbia. He retired and went back to art. A colleague suggested to him, “You’re great with needles and you’re great with art, so why don’t you decide to be a tattoo artist!”
Karen agreed that opening a business in the middle of a pandemic was challenging.
What’s to come? Karen say’s they hope to continue to grow with their amazing staff. The next immediate step will be to get digital forms since their current form system is overflowing thanks to a great response from the community.
And to mark their third anniversary, Black Canal Tattoo Company is nominated for a Kingston Community Votes award. Voting is open online until January 21st.
