This Snowmobile Safety Week, the OPP are urging riders to stay off of the ice as it can be unpredictable due to our milder winter.
myFM spoke with Constable David Yome, L&A OPP Media Relations Officer.
In the past 10 years, there have been 158 snowmobile fatalities. 36% of them occurred on frozen lakes and rivers.
But the unpredictable ice isn’t the only concern.
41% of the fatalities were linked to alcohol and drugs.
And before heading out, snowmobilers are asked to check the interactive trail map at www.ofsc.on.ca for trail status.
Snowmobile Safety Week runs from January 13 to 21, 2024.
