It was an exciting weekend of hockey for the Napanee Raiders who played two of their closest geographical rivals.
Friday, January 26th the Raiders hosted the Picton Pirates. The first period opened with four unanswered goals for the Raiders by Trent Williams, Carter Hartwick, Cameron Krupa and Erik MacNiel. Picton would score one within the last 5 minutes for a 4-1 Raiders lead at the end of the period. Michael Patrick was the first to score for the Raiders in the second. Nearing the end of the period Picton would score their second of the night. A few minutes later Patrick would go on to score his second of the night with 11 seconds remaining in the period. It would go on to be a scoreless third period for a 6-2 Raiders win.
Sunday, January 28th the Raiders made to trip to Amherstview to play the Jets. It was a one sided first period that saw Amherstview score three unanswered goals. The Jets scored early in the second to secure their lead with a fourth goal on the night. Late in the second period, Blake Aylesworth would score the Raiders first goal of the night. With less than four minutes left in the third period, Aylesworth would score his second of the night and second for the Raiders. 30 seconds later Amherstview went on to score their fifth of the night. Then with 16 seconds left in the game, Trent Williams would score the Raiders third for a 5-3 Jets win.
The Napanee Raiders are sitting in fourth place in the East Tod Division standings with a 19-14-0-1 record and 37 points. They sit behind Frankford (24-7-4-0), Port Hope (22-11-3-1) and Amherstview (23-12-0-0). Followed by Picton (13-18-1-1) and Campbellford (0-31-1-1).
The Raiders return to action Thursday, February 1st in Picton against the Pirates. Puck drop at 7:30pm. Then they’ll be home Friday, February 2nd to host Campbellford. Puck drop at 7:30pm.
