Canadian Blood Services is going on a college tour, calling on Ontario students to step up and swab their cheeks to save a life.
myFM spoke with Community Development Manager Debbi Barfoot, who told us more about their tour.
They will be at Queen’s University Thursday, February 8th from 8am to 12pm at the Athletic Recreation Centre with Queen’s University Blood Team and from 12:30 – 2:30pm at the Med Building with nursing students.
Barfoot told us what participating students can expect.
Community members can also register and request a swab kit to be mailed to your house that you can then mail back.
As they look to increase their list of those registered, Barfoot told us it’s important they increase the diversity of their stem cell registry.
Canadian Blood Services says nearly 1,000 Canadian patients are waiting for a lifesaving stem cell transplant and finding a match is like finding a needle in a hay stack.
