A well-known politician in the region has died.
Daryl Kramp passed away Thursday at the age of 76.
Daryl served as an MP for four terms in Prince Edward – Hastings, and one term as an MPP in Hastings – Lennox and Addington until retiring in 2022. Before his time as an MP, Daryl was an OPP officer, and municipal politician in his hometown of Madoc.
His daughter, Shelby Kramp-Neuman posted to Twitter Friday morning in tribute of her father, “A life of greatness lived with purpose, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration. An extraordinary man who embodied wisdom, kindness, integrity, and devotion to family, community, and nation. My guiding light, my mentor, my father; an exemplary soul whose impact will be felt for generations. I’m heartbroken but so proud of the beautiful life he lived.”
More tributes are pouring in for the politician from local officials.
Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson shared with myFM that “Daryl was the real definition of a gentleman. He committed the better part of his life to public service and did so in a manner we all can learn from. On behalf of the Town of Greater Napanee I would like to express our sincere condolences to Carol Ann and his family at this difficult time. Daryl will be sorely missed. ”
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams shared in a statement on social media, “Rest in Peace to former Hastings Prince Edward Conservative MP Daryl Kramp. Daryl put family and faith first but was also hospitality centered with a love for our community.”
BOQ MPP Tod Smith went to social media to share his deepest condolences to his family. “As a politician at all three levels municipal, provincial and federal he was committed to making his community, province and country a better place. He had many accomplishments and has left a lasting legacy in the Quinte communities he represented.”
Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis shared they are “deeply saddened to have learned of the passing of Daryl Kramp. A champion for our community throughout his time as both MP and MPP in Belleville and the surrounding region, and we will always be grateful for the contributions he made to our city. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”
Communities like the City of Belleville, Hastings County, and Loyalist Township have all shared they have lowered their flags in his memory.
myFM spoke with Daryl in 2022 to chat about his retirement. He wanted to thank the community for all of their support, guidance, assistance, and words of wisdom over the years.
In September 2021, Shelby was elected MP for H-L&A. At the time she told myFM that this was a unique experience, not knowing of any other father-daughter duo’s serving a riding at the provincial and federal levels, but was looking forward to working alongside her dad as she would any other MPP.
There is no word yet about funeral arrangements.
