Education minister Stephen Lecce is voicing his thoughts about the plan from several school boards, like the LDSB and ALCDSB, to give students the day off during the spring solar eclipse on April 8th.
Lecce says he’s not comfortable with the move, but adds he’s not going to tell trustees what to do.
In November, the LDSB approved the change, shifting their Professional Activity Day (PA Day) from April 12 to April 8 to accommodate the eclipse.
They say they are making the decision due to safety concerns over the near-total solar eclipse.
The school board has also shared that prior to the event, educational opportunities will be provided to students to maximize their safety and enjoyment.
