Accused arsonist Jay Nelson Bradley will have his case go to a preliminary hearing later this year.
Bradley was arrested in early November as the Lennox and Addington OPP investigated the fires that brought down the Old Arena on York Street in Napanee and damaged the detached garage at the home of the Agricultural Societies President in Stone Mills Township.
He faces charges including Two counts of Arson – Disregard for Human Life, Criminal Harassment – Threatening Conduct, and Possession of Incendiary Material.
Bradley was denied bail in Napanee court in December 2023. During a court appearance on April 9, it was decided that his preliminary hearing will take place in November.
What is a preliminary hearing? It determines if there’s enough evidence for a trial. The prosecutor presents key evidence and may call witnesses. If there’s insufficient evidence, the case is dismissed. Otherwise, a trial date is set.
