Greater Napanee town hall is set to have its exterior restored to its dark red brick, once visible when opened in 1856.
At their meeting Tuesday night, town council voted to award the contact to The Brick Painters Ltd.
Chris Brown, Facilities Manager, Community & Corporate Services told council about the team who will be taking on this project.
The Brick Painters Ltd. are known for restoring historical buildings. They’ve visited the site many times and done a test panel that is visible on the southwest corner of the building, pictured here:
The work will consist of removing loose paint from brick and wooden surfaces, except for areas like facia under eaves, eaves troughs, and downspouts, Remove and reinstall downspouts over brickwork for repainting, Repair any damaged masonry or woodwork, with extra charges for replacing rotten wood, Prime all surfaces before repainting, and Use The Brick Painters faux finish for masonry and approved white color for wooden surfaces like windows, soffits, columns, gables, doors, and door frames.
Councillor Angela Hicks asked if when the crews are working on the wooden gable, if there’s a provision in place if they need to be replaced.
Councillor Michael Schenk says this is long overdue.
Mayor Terry Richardson like many, are looking forward to seeing the final product.
This project is set to cost $118,650. Any additional work is priced at $65/man hour, and materials at cost plus 10% plus HST.
Work is set to begin as early as this month.
