Hickory Lane Alpacas is a family-owned fiber farm located in Greater Napanee. The farm first began operations in the 80’s. Mike Coles and Ashley Braun, a husband and wife duo, took over the farm from Mike’s parents in recent years.
It’s a traditional farm in most sense, but they’ve introduced a hands-on experience for visitors. They host tours of the farm on the weekends and have been known to visit the John M. Parrot Centre with their cute baby goats.
The family believes it’s crucial for everyone to maintain a connection to farms, understanding and appreciating the origins of not just their food, but also their clothing.
Alpaca fibers are their number one export. They’ve partnered with Topsy Farms on Amherst Island to make a blanket line. Their fiber is also used to make socks and yarn, which is then knit into items such as hats and mittens.
