Garrett’s Legacy Act is now law in Ontario.
Bill 99 passed its third reading late last week, mandating that removable soccer nets must be securely anchored.
In May 2017, 15-year-old Garrett Mills passed away in King Street Park in Napanee when an unsecured soccer net tipped over while he was attempting a chin-up, causing a fatal injury.
myFM spoke with Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee to learn more.
Bresee says this legislation was formed to provide the Minister of Tourism, Sport and Culture with the authority to create regulations to ensure safety.
The MPP says it’s wonderful to see this move forward, and credits Garrett’s parents, Dave and Gwen Mills, for being such strong advocates.
