Greater Napanee Town Council has named local author Rick Revelle as Senior of the Year.
This award gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to honour one local outstanding individual who, after the age of 65, has enriched the social, cultural and civic life of their community.
Mayor Terry Richardson told those in attendance more about Revelle.
Revelle has volunteered at Greater Napanee’s Cultural Days sharing stories with children and adults. He’s been a founder of the literacy circle to encourage writers from the region to navigate the industry and share his journey as an author.
In the education system, he’s visited thousands of classes with all three local school boards, as well as other schools across Ontario and Manitoba. He was a huge part of a recent donation to the Limestone district School Board and Sharbot Lake Education Centre, gifting them furs, his arrow collection and many more items, to give students and the community a hands on experience with the Indigenous Algonquin culture.
Richardson shared we’re very lucky to have Revelle as part of our Greater Napanee community.
During the presentation, Revelle thanked those who nominated him.
He concluded by thanking the community of Greater Napanee and what it did for him.
