With the impending closure of the L&A SOS Seniors Bus at the end of the month, many in the community are wondering how they’ll get from point A to point B. That’s where the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) comes in!
The VON offers a transportation program to seniors over 60 years old in the Greater Napanee and Loyalist area.
myFM spoke with Kim McCaugherty, VON Transportation Coordinator, who told us more.
The driver will also be able to provide any additional assistance they may need like putting their walker in the trunk or help with a seat belt.
If you know a senior who needs a drive, call McCaugherty at 613-354-6668 ex 109 to get them registered. They’d also appreciate a few day’s notice before a ride is needed.
With an uptick in new riders, the VON is also recruiting new volunteer drivers.
The great part about being a volunteer driver is setting your own hours and letting the VON know when you’re available to drive.
There is also a great need for volunteer drivers in Loyalist Township right now. If you’re interested in volunteering or have any questions about the program, contact McCaugherty at 613-354-6668 ex 109.
