
The Discover L&A MEGA Geocaching Event is bringing visitors from across North America and around the world to Lennox and Addington County this weekend!
Events are scheduled from August 14th – 18th at various locations in L&A County.
myFM spoke with Rob Plumley, L&A Community Development Officer, who explained geocaching as a high-tech treasure hunt.
Audio PlayerThis year is the MEGA Geocaching Event’s 10th anniversary! MEGA means more than 500 people are coming, but the county is expecting over 1000.
There’s lots planned for this years event. The Early Bird Meet & Greet is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14th at 7 pm at Conservation Park in Napanee to make new geocaching friends for the week. On Thursday at 1 pm, explore the history of Babcock Mill, a landmark in Odessa. Later, at 8:30 pm, enjoy a stargazing tour led by Tim Trentadue at the L&A Dark Sky Viewing Area in Erinsville, weather permitting.
Audio PlayerOn Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm, the DLA MEGA Saturday event at the Museum of L&A in Napanee will include games, draws, and activities. Geocachers can explore Lennox & Addington before returning by 4 pm for prizes, closing remarks, and a group photo. Finally, on Sunday August 18th at 9 am, participate in the CITO community clean-up at Springside Park in Napanee, continuing a MEGA tradition.
Plumley says this weekend’s events are open to everyone, whether you’re a geocacher or not.
