The Greater Napanee Market Square advisory committee has unveiled exciting plans for transforming Greater Napanee’s Market Square precinct. CAO Matthew Grant presented recommendations focused on making the town hall a community hub. The proposal highlights creating a sustainable vendor market and improving the aesthetics of John and Center Streets while preserving the historic 1856 building.
Councilor Dave Pinnell Jr, who supports the project, confirmed that $400,000 has been set aside from land sales for the improvements, ensuring no extra levy on residents.
The plans include removing hazardous materials, installing two washrooms, and creating an open event space on the first floor. Other improvements include front step repairs, fountain removal to create a plaza, and adding a covered area for markets.
With council approval, staff will provide timelines and costing for these upgrades. The project aims to create a vibrant destination for community events and markets in the heart of town.
