Classes at Napanee District Secondary School are running a fundraiser to support their welding classes, helping keep the shop open and operational.
Welding teacher Becky Mair shared that with rising material costs and tight school budgets, the program relies on community support.
The students create various projects that they sell, including festive items like pumpkins and for the upcoming holiday season, decorations such as snowmen and Christmas trees.
The students build four projects: two for sale, one to keep, and one for display in the school. This process boosts their confidence and pride when they see their work sold.
To help create these items and to learn the trade, the school is accepting donations of usable scrap metal.
Utensils like forks, spoons, and dull knives also help the students get creative. Bolts and other nuts are also useful.
Donations will fund essential welding supplies. Community members interested in helping can contact Becky Mair at SmithR@limestone.on.ca or call the high school for more information.
