The Greater Napanee Fire Departments annual Toy and Food Collection Drive, now in its 18th year, is making a difference in the community by spreading holiday joy and supporting families in need.
The drive collects toys, food, and monetary contributions to ensure children of all ages can experience the magic of Christmas.
myFM spoke with Ashley Arnold, who had some shopping suggestions for those harder-to-shop-for teens aged 14–18.
Food donations are also vital, as they help provide two weeks of meals for families while children are home from school during the holiday break.
The impact of the initiative is deeply felt. Erin Tyers shared many families have expressed gratitude for the relief it provides.
Local businesses and community sponsors play a crucial role in the drive’s success. Major supporters include Giant Tiger, Canadian Tire, Joyce’s Meats, and the Country Butcher. Initiatives like Joyce’s “round-up for ground beef” program make it easy for customers to contribute. The Town’s parking ticket toy donation program allows residents to exchange tickets for toys, adding another creative way to support the drive.
Donations can be dropped off at the fire department located 66 Advance Avenue, until December 13 to allow volunteers time to organize and distribute items.
New this year, Spuds Restaurant on Industrial Blvd. has stepped up as the host for the fire fighter’s breakfast. A location change was required this year due to the construction currently underway at Denny’s.
On December 11 from 7-10am, Spuds will be donating proceeds from the early bird special. Greater Napanee Firefighters will be on site from 7am-2pm helping bust tables and serving coffee. There will also be a Fire apparatus on site taking unwrapped new toys for the Toy Drive. They will also be looking to fill the fire boot for those who want to donate cash to the campaign also.
