OPP officers across the East Region have charged 23 motorists with impaired driving since launching the Festive RIDE initiative on November 21. Over 200 RIDE programs have been conducted, stopping hundreds of drivers to ensure they are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In addition, nine warnings were issued, resulting in licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments.
“Impaired drivers are a threat to everyone on the roads, including themselves, their passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians,” said Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm, OPP East Region Commander. “If you plan to drink or use drugs, make a safe plan, like having a designated driver or using a taxi or ride-share service.”
RIDE programs take place at any time, day or night, to keep roads safer. If you suspect someone is impaired, call 9-1-1. Your action could save lives.
