Ontario bird enthusiasts are gearing up for the 125th Christmas Bird Count (CBC), the longest-running wildlife census in North America. The annual event, which runs from December 14, 2024, to January 5, 2025, invites participants of all ages and skill levels to help track bird populations.
This year, 67 nature groups from Ontario Nature’s network of 150 organizations will host counts across the province.
myFM spoke with Conservation Science Manager, Jenna Quinn, who said the event offers a chance to explore the outdoors and connect with fellow nature lovers, and contribute valuable data for bird conservation.
There will be a count this Friday, December 27th in Napanee and one on Amherst Island.
You’ll of course need to dress for the weather, but it’ll be helpful to bring some tools along too, like binoculars. But don’t worry if you don’t have the tools.
