The Town of Greater Napanee is celebrating Heritage Week from February 17 to 23, 2025, marking 170 years since it became a village. Heritage Day fell on Monday, February 17, this year.
Queen Victoria granted the village status on January 1, 1855, after a proclamation in 1854. If you look around, you’ll notice many historic buildings from that time still stand today.
To honour this milestone, the Municipal Heritage Committee, with support from local businesses, will showcase vintage photos in shop windows. Residents are encouraged to explore these displays and reflect on the town’s past.
Mayor Terry Richardson thanked the committee for its efforts in preserving local history. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the town’s journey while looking ahead to the future.
