The Town of Greater Napanee is expanding its approach to aquatic recreation by renaming its Pool Advisory Committee to the Aquatics Advisory Committee and updating its mandate.
Town Council received a report recommending the name change to better reflect the committee’s broader role. While the long-term goal of building a municipal aquatics centre remains, financial challenges make it unlikely in the near future. Instead, the committee will focus on exploring partnerships with other municipalities and organizations that already have aquatic facilities.
The updated mandate will allow the committee to research financially sustainable options for future aquatics facilities while also working on short-term solutions to improve water-related recreation opportunities for residents.
A revised terms of reference will be added to the Town’s Advisory Committee By-law to formalize the new direction.
The Town hopes this approach will provide realistic and achievable aquatic programs while keeping long-term goals in sight.
Council approved the updated mandate during their meeting last night.
