Shawn Armstrong has officially been appointed Fire Chief of the Greater Napanee Fire Department. Armstrong, who had been serving as Acting Fire Chief since April 2024, took on the role permanently as of February 26, 2025.
Armstrong brings extensive experience, having previously served as Fire Chief in Guelph and Kingston. He led Kingston Fire & Rescue to an international accreditation for quality performance and safety. Armstrong holds qualifications from Fanshawe College, the Ontario Police College, and the University of Virginia.
In his new role, Armstrong will focus on a range of initiatives, including assessing fire department fees, revising response agreements, and developing service standards. He will also complete a Fire Master Plan and a Community Risk Assessment for Greater Napanee.
Terry Richardson, Mayor for the Town of Greater Napanee, shared, “I am extremely excited that Chief Armstrong has decided to accept the permanent position of Fire Chief with the Town of Greater Napanee. Chief Armstrong is an extremely qualified and experienced Fire professional who will undoubtedly be an asset to our Department and Corporation. Welcome Chief, to our Greater Napanee family.”
Armstrong also shared his appreciation and dedication to the role. Chief Armstrong states, “As Fire Chief, I am honored to lead an organization of highly skilled and dedicated firefighters who are passionate about protecting our community from the risks of fire and other hazards. I look forward to working with the team at the Greater Napanee Fire Department in delivering Council’s approved programs and services. I also look forward to working with the community, Council, Senior Leadership Team, and Fire Team at the Town of Greater Napanee to incrementally improve our mandatory, legislated, and essential services based on the evolving needs and circumstances of our growing community.”
