Greater Napanee Town Council has officially declared April 2, 2025, as World Autism Day and April 7, 2025, as Green Shirt Day, with April also recognized as Be A Donor Month. The proclamations were approved during the March 11 council meeting.
World Autism Day was requested by Erika Luoma on behalf of Autism Ontario. The organization, which has supported autistic individuals and their families since 1973, runs the “Celebrate the Spectrum” campaign to promote awareness and inclusion. Autism affects over 135,000 Ontarians, and the proclamation aims to highlight the need for support and advocacy.
Green Shirt Day and Be A Donor Month were requested by Lesley Kimble of the Transplant Advocacy Association. The day honors Logan Boulet, a Humboldt Broncos player who saved six lives through organ donation after his passing in 2018. His story inspired over 100,000 Canadians to register as organ donors. To mark the occasion, a flag-raising ceremony has been requested to take place on April 7 at 10:00 a.m.
Council encourages residents to support both causes by learning about autism and registering for organ and tissue donation to help save lives.
