Cataraqui Conservation has issued a Flood Watch due to rapid snowmelt and heavy rainfall, causing high water levels and the risk of flooding in several areas.
Over the weekend, above-normal temperatures and 15-25 mm of rain led to significant runoff. More rain is expected on March 20, 24, and 25, which could further increase water levels. While widespread flooding is not expected, low-lying areas are at risk.
Impacted locations in the Cataraqui Watershed include Loughborough Lake, Buck Lake, Canoe Lake, Kingsford Lake, Devil Lake, Newboro Lake, Opinicon Lake, Sand Lake, Cranberry Lake, Dog Lake, and Colonel By Lake.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to move items out of floodplains and stay alert. Water managers are increasing discharge from dams to minimize flooding impacts. The public should avoid fast-flowing water, dams, and slippery shorelines.
Localized roadway flooding has already been reported in Kingston. The Flood Watch remains in effect until March 26, 2025.
