Along with the right materials, a working compost bin must have oxygen which requires turning the mass with a garden fork every few weeks. Without this, the material won’t compost, but instead rots and creates methane.
Kelley Scott, also with Just Good Compost says disposing of organic materials in a traditional landfill just compounds our air quality problems.
They note that landfill methane, a greenhouse gas that affects climate 80 times more than carbon dioxide worldwide, rivals the toxins from the entire transportation industry.
