Prince Edward County Council has approved the next stage of redevelopment for the former Queen Elizabeth School site in Picton. On March 24, 2025, Council agreed to partner with New View Holdings Inc. in a public-private agreement to transform the property at 35 Barker Street.
The project includes the development of 198 residential units—half of which will be affordable housing—and a 22,500-square-foot community hub. The redevelopment will feature green spaces, a playground, and more.
Mayor Steve Ferguson emphasized that affordable housing is the top priority for the project. Public consultation will play a key role in shaping the design, with updates and milestones provided by New View Holdings throughout the process.
This redevelopment follows the school board’s 2018 decision to declare the property surplus. The municipality purchased the site in 2023 with the goal of recouping its $1.5 million investment while providing essential community resources.
