Bumbles Serenade by Lisa Ray Koenig
A Napanee artist’s work is now part of Kingston’s first hospice residence, helping bring warmth and comfort to patients and families.
More than 20 local artists have donated paintings, quilts, and mixed-media art to Providence Care’s AB Smith Homestead House, which opened on March 19, 2025. Among them is Napanee artist Lisa Ray Koenig, who contributed Chasing Sunlight and Bumbles Serenade.
Koenig says Chasing Sunlight was inspired by personal loss and includes hidden elements like song lyrics, postcards, and maps. She hopes the artwork offers peace and light to those facing difficult times.
The hospice, funded mainly through community donations, provides end-of-life care in a home-like setting. Artwork is displayed throughout the 10-bed residence, creating a soothing atmosphere. Organizers say art can bring relief and calmness to patients and grieving families, making the space feel welcoming and full of life.
