A routine traffic stop on Highway 62 has led to impaired driving charges against a Belleville driver.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Prince Edward County detachment stopped a vehicle around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. Officers arrested the driver and transported him to the detachment for further testing.
Zachary Veronez, 20, of Belleville, is now facing three charges:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Mischief
Veronez has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 16, 2025. The accused’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police remind the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1, emphasizing that taking action could save lives.
