The South East Health Unit (SEHU) is warning the public of new measles exposures in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
On April 4, 2025, exposures occurred at Foodland in Picton (11 a.m. to 1:20 p.m.) and Gillingham Brewing Company in Bloomfield (3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.). A third exposure took place at Red’s Diner in Trenton on April 6, 2025 (10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health complications, such as pneumonia, ear infections, and in rare cases, brain infections or death. Those at risk of complications include individuals who are immunocompromised, infants under 12 months, pregnant women, and anyone who has not received two doses of the measles vaccine.
Anyone in these groups who were present at the locations during the listed times should contact public health at 613-966-5500, ext. 349. Full details and vaccination guidance are available on the SEHU website.
