One in five homes in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington
region have tested above Health Canada’s radon gas guideline.
The odourless, colourless gas is formed naturally by the breakdown
of uranium in soil and rock. When radon gas enters
an enclosed space like a building, it can reach unhealthy levels.
Starting in November, KFL&A Public Health will be selling low cost radon
tests. Additional information can be found on the health unit’s website.
Locally, Loyalist Township has launched a Soil Gas Mitigation Program
which is applicable to all new construction with a building permit date of
August 12th or later.
